Welcome to Turtuk Valley School

Turtuk Valley School (a not-for-profit run school ) was launched in 2020 bringing quality education to one of the remotest corners of India.  For the many parents unable to educate their children in distant towns, the school is a dream come true. And the promise of a better future for their children and the community.

The school's launch was the culmination of long-held aspirations and persistent efforts of our Founding Team, who were well supported and guided by the AFAC Trust.  The school is being run with the primary objective of imparting education to kids in remote parts of the country.

We have accomplished a lot...

Starting with 20 students, we now teach over 130 students in grades Pre-nursery to Grade 8, and plan to grow organically up to Grade 12.

Around 40% of the students pay no fees. Several daughters of Turtuk have been trained in Mumbai and employed in the school for teaching and administration. The school has expanded to include a library and digital classrooms.

Our innovative educational system, designed for the unique challenges of Turtuk, combines activity-based learning in classrooms and home-schooling for winter .

...but we still have a long way to go.

Turtuk, a spectacularly beautiful place high up in the Himalayas, is also very remote with a harsh environment and poor infrastructure. The school can function for just 5-6 months a year. Electricity and internet are sporadic, making remote learning nearly impossible. We need innovative teaching practices with a large component of self-study.

To support our  growth, we need to expand our teaching staff as well as improve our school and transportation resources. And, there is a constant need for learning materials and consumables to be brought in from Leh or rest of India.
